Bathroom blues (and progress)

The plan for lovely blue bathroom was to remove all the blue tiles and keep the old blue (Twyfords, 1973) suite but things haven't gone quite to plan and the challenge is still upon us as I write this post.

The tiles were removed and the walls re-plastered by our lovely workman, Vlad.

We wanted to change the taps on the sink but the process of removing the old ones led to quite a large section of sink breaking off. Not to be deterred I ordered strong glue and silver permanent pen so I could attempt at 'kintsugi' style repair (a Japanese process of making the break visible to celebrate the break and the extended life of the object).  The break didn't affect the sink bowl, just the outer edges but it had cracked through the tap hole so it it was a vain attempt at fixing.  This was scuppered further by trying to get the second tap out - causing an even larger break to the other side. Now the sink is destined for the bin.

So, what to replace it with?

Twyfords (or Twyford's) blue sinks aren't all the same shade of blue, and ours is really turquiosy-blue. It seems after hours and hours of research that buying a replacement sink is impossible - or would involve a lot of long distance travelling to check out if something is actually the right colour.

Bathroom blues definitely describes our last few days.

So, we have a strange plan b currently in progress ...

What if we buy a white sink and put it on the old blue pedestal?  What if we buy a white loo and attach it to the old blue cistern?  Who knows where this will lead ... it may be that we have a fully white bathroom soon!
